W. W. Otey (1867–1961)

This book is an absolutely amazing book about the impact of Darwinism on Christianity. It is a carefully researched refutation of naturalism done by a non-academic, but profoundly capable, minister of Christ. Otey is always good, but this tome is, in my estimation, his crowning achievement (although I confess, I do so enjoy Christ vs. Modernism, as well as his debates). While subsequent research into Darwinism has revealed many things which would be presented to ostensibly negate Otey's points, his emphasis on faith and its implications remain unchallenged. That he wrote this book in the pre-WW2 years, scarcely 80 years after Darwin's Origin of Species was published; and as I said, by a man with modest, even negligible standing in the scholarly community (and certainly, without academic credentials to back up his research) is quite astounding.… (mehr)
