To me, this one reads like a classic Eastern European fairytale.
And it sort of is! A fairytale retelling of The Goose Girl, mainly from the perspective of Vanja, the servant disguised as a princess and not the "goose girl" who is the actual princess, Gisele.
Vanja has some interesting backstory, being the goddaughter of Fortune and Death and having a bejeweled curse placed on her by another god which complicates her deceit portraying a princess.
