- Owens attended Parks College there and Harding College at Searcy, Ark. He was a college orator and belonged to a state championship debate team.Owens came to Norman in 1970 from Garden Oaks Church of Christ in Houston. He had been minister of Eastside Church of Christ,Tulsa, for 23 years. While in Tulsa Owens helped found Central Christian College in Bartlesville. He was instrumental in moving the college to Oklahoma City where it became known as Oklahoma Christian College. He served on the OCC board of trustees until 1966. The author of eight books, including "The One Hundredfold Life,"Owens was also president of Owens Publications, Inc.
