Superb short and original overview about WWII - mostly in chronological order but also with thematic chapters on Anglo-American strategies, economies at war, strategic bombing, morale and the holocaust. As the book was first published in 1989 it does not contain many references to the latest evidence and sources that became available after the end of the cold war on Soviet strategy and politics. Highly recommended though.
