Bruce Pearson (1) (1942–)

I picked up this book in 9th grade. Although I learned the names of a few great classical pieces from the book, Standard of Excellence really didn't do much for me. At the level of playing that I had mastered by 9th grade, it was all too easy to sight read any piece assigned to me from this book. I have decided to move on to C. Rose's 32 Etudes for Clarinet for the book's relative difficulty, and I have noticed greater improvement than what I ever got from this book. However, had I picked this book up a couple of years before, I definitely would have benefited greatly. The exercises do a good job of improving the novice clarinetist's skill and technique, as well as their comprehension of Eras of Common Practice in terms of classical music.… (mehr)
