Unwrapping Martha's Joy: Creating a Mary Christmas… von Brenda Poinsett

I have known for quite some time that if someone were to compare me to someone in the Bible that my personality most matches Martha. At times it has driven my friends and family nuts. The Martha’s in the world do not care less about the scriptures or spiritual nature of holidays and special occasions. We just have this over-powering need to do everything to make our guests feel specials and at home. At times, some of my family members have made me feel as if I was all wrapped up in tying this up in a pretty fashion and cared less about the spiritual aspect of it. However, as the author pointed out, being a Martha is not a bad thing. Being a Martha can be it’s own form of ministry. Often it is those Martha like characteristics that pull someone into the spirit of the message by first making them feel warm and welcomed in a way that others may not be able to. After all, Jesus ministered to the physical needs of man to bring him closer to him. You can’t have a Mary without a Martha because they balance each other out.

Wonder Women of the Bible: Heroes of Yesterday Who… von Brenda Poinsett

Although I appreciated the review of the stories of the Biblical women, the book itself was poorly written and I felt that Poinsett often took liberties with the text to reflect her own viewpoint. As a study of biblical women, the book was very weak.
