Most know the legacy of actor, singer and Pan-African rights activist Paul Robeson. But behind and more often than not, next to, this great man, was an equally powerful and outspoken woman. Academic author, Barbara Ransby, in the biography Eslanda: The Large and Unconventional Life of Mrs. Paul Robeson, brings to light the passion of "Essie" Robeson as she struggled to find her own political and independent voice.

Ella Baker! She was an amazing activist, and we could all learn so much from her...and by reading this book! It was an easy read, and packed full of information. A bit repetitive at points, but definitely worthy of about 4.5 stars.
