Do not use in ECP
this is a brilliant book with amazing illustrations. It talks about a young girl that is kidnapped and taken away from her family to work for the people who kidnapped her. Then she gets married,has a baby, and then she helps people find their way to her old home land. I believe this book depicts how courageous and determined Sacajawea was in the plot.
The story of Sacajawea: her kidnapping and travels with the explorers. This is a great story for 1st – 3rd grade. For 3rd -5th grade, would like to see a Sacajawea biography with more detail.
Sacajawea was taken from her people and enslaved at the age of ten. She was sold and married off at the age of thirteen. She believe that she would never see her family again. In 1804 she met Louis and Clark and had been hired to guide them to her people. Throughout the difficult journey, people got ill and so did she. The men took care of her, just as she had cared for them. When she made it home to her people, she recognized her brother. After reuniting with her family she felt ready to see the ocean :-)
