This one has very helpful teaching about mixing various skin tones, shaping the head, painting facial features, gesture drawing to pencil and directly to watercolor, and working with the figure in composition.

I read this first from my local library. Although this book is out of print and used copies are getting difficult to source, I made sure to pick up a used copy and will use it as a workbook to guide some deeper study in figure watercolor.… (mehr)

The first half-2/3 is a summary of Reid's[b:The Natural Way to Paint: Rendering the Figure in Watercolor Simply and Beautifully|627282|The Natural Way to Paint Rendering the Figure in Watercolor Simply and Beautifully|Charles Reid|https://d.gr-assets.com/books/1320421881s/627282.jpg|613627] This includes an excellent exploration of skin tones for painting figures and portraits.

The second is a summary of landscape watercolor tips, which may very well be a summary of another Reid book I haven't yet purchased.

I've found it more helpful to buy a copy of The Natural Way to Paint than this one (after reading both from the local library), but only because this book is now out of print and it's getting expensive to track down used copies.… (mehr)
