Hannah's Alaska von Joanne Reiser
Hannah is a young girl in Alaska who meets a family who has just moved to her home state. She is tested on her knowledge of Alaska when the new family needs help getting situated. Hannah's Alaska has a great message of being welcome, helpful, and kind to new people and I would use it in my classroom to highlight those things. This book is suitable for the grades of 1-3.
This book tells the story of Hannah, a native Alaskan girl who befriends a new boy in her neighborhood. He moved from California with his mom and sister and they are all very unsure about how to adjust to their new home but with Hannah's help he overcomes his homesickness and learns to love Alaska. I thought this was a sweet story because it showed how each place in the world has something unique to offer and it also told a lovely story of friendship. I would read this book in Grades 2-3 to discuss the theme of multiculturalism.… (mehr)
