Brian Rella

This novella, "Rising," by Brian Rella is the prequel to the much anticipated Second Death series and actually expands on the story "Arraziel," found in his compilation "Monsters & Demons." I really enjoyed reading this book and was immediately swept away into this world that I can't wait to see more of in the upcoming series. Brian's writing is very evocative of the classic horror of the 70s and 80s and his writing is so descriptive (yet concise) and alluring, that you can't help but be drawn into this world and his characters. I love authors whose writing allows you to visualize the action as it's happening and Brian excels at this. This is going to be a great series and I, for one, can't wait until The Watchers is out.… (mehr)

I eagerly awaited the release of Brian Rella's new Second Death series and I must say, I'm not disappointed in the least. "Watchers of the Fallen" lives up to its expectations and then some. The world-building was great and I loved the whole premise and the new characters who were introduced in this book.

Brian's writing is crisp, concise and compelling. Not a moment lags as you follow Frank, who is in pursuit of Jessie, before she causes any more havoc or creates a hell on earth. I really enjoyed the bits about Frank's background, as well as the entire group of Watchers.

This story is intriguing and definitely has the potential to become a much-lauded new series. And in the expert hands of Brian Rella, I'm sure it will.… (mehr)

I was first introduced to some of the characters in Brian Rella's "Queen of the Fallen" in his Monsters & Demons collection of short stories. I immediately fell in love with the world he created and I continued with the Second Death series when he brought out the first volume, "Watchers of the Fallen." I'm so glad I was introduced to this author and his work, because with "Queen of the Fallen," he just gets better and better and has become one of my favorite authors. It's hard to pinpoint exactly what it is about this book and series that is so appealing, but whatever it is, the combination of fantasy, horror, suspense and drama combine to make one fascinating and involving story that I hope continues for a long time to come.
