Helen Steiner Rice, 1900 - 1981 Poet Helen Steiner Rice was born May 19, 1900 in Lorain, Ohio. She married Franklin Rice, a banker, in 1928, who then died in 1932. She then took her first job at Lorain Electric Light & Power Company and went on to work for the Gibson Greeting Cards Company. She mehr anzeigen wrote poetry for greeting cards for forty years. Some of her poetry collections published were "Someone Cares" (1972), "Somebody Loves You" (1976), "And the Greatest of These is Love" (1980), "Celebrations of the Heart" (1987), "Blossoms of Friendship" (1992), "A Book of Courage" (1996), and "Heart Gifts From Helen Steiner Rice: A Special Selection of Her Poems and a Pen Portrait of Her as a Person" (1968). Out of the 60-some poems here, I only liked a few.
One of the better ones:
"No Favor Do I Seek Today"
I come not to ask, to plead, or implore You,
I just come to tell You how much I adore You,
For to kneel in Your presence makes me feel blest
For I know that You know all my needs best...
And it fills me with joy just to linger with You
As my soul You replenish and my heart You renew,
For prayer is much more than just asking for
things -
It's the peace and contentment that quietness
brings...
So thank You again for Your mercy and love
And for making me heir to Your kingdom above!… (mehr)
