Profusely illustrated, in black and white and colour, my unused diary for 1985 will be fine should I wish to use it in 2019! The Almanac contains one historical entry for most days of the year, though some are blank (as if nought ever happened in London history on that day!). Sunday 24 March 2019 will be the bicentenary of the opening of the first Southwark Bridge, designed by John Rennie (it was replaced in 1921). Friday 3 May 2019 will mark the 150th anniversary of the first exhibition at Burlington House to be held by the Royal Academy. Wednesday 19 June 2019 is the 150th anniversary of the opening to the public of Southwark Park and, on 7 August 1869, Finsbury Park was completed. Friday 13 September 2019 is the quatercentenary of the founding of Dulwich College by Edward Alleyne. Wednesday 6 November 2019 will be the 150th anniversary of the opening by Queen Victoria of both Holborn Viaduct and the then new Blackfriars Bridge.… (mehr)
