A tale of betrayal and deception and of a young mother's determination to recover what belongs to her.

Forced to leave her baby and tricked into relinquishing her parental rights, four years later Catherine Boyd is back and she'll do anything to regain custody of her son--even reconcile with the husband falsely accused of killing their son's twin.

All in the name of love for a little boy, generations of pain and tragedy are exposed in a courtroom drama

Received in ebook format from www.netgalley.com.

Catherine attempts to get her 4 year old son back from her parents after she passes her degree with honours, only to find her parents unwilling to give him back. Instead they use him as a pawn to get Catherine back home to Chicago from California and back under their thumb

Instead she takes her lawyers’ advice and meets up with her estranged husband Thomas to present a united front to get their son back. They have not really talked since Thomas was acquitted of killing their other son, Drew's twin, who had died of cot death.

The rest of the book is the legalities of going to court to get their child back. During this time they have to not only work out how to be a married couple but also parents, something Thomas in particular struggles with as the last time he saw his son he was three months old.

The court scenes are strong and bring out so many secrets on all sides, finally reflecting the true nature of the relationships between parents and children of each generation. There are secrets between husband and wife and parents and children, some devastating as they come out in court.

I felt we got some understanding of why Eric was the way he was, but felt Sarah as the mother was a little underdeveloped as a character - just why had she felt so disconnected from her children? Why had she given up her job as a promising mathematician? Was it simply to have the children she was expected to have, even in the 1980s?

This is certainly a very strong start from a debut author and well worth the read!

What an extraordinary story this was!

I loved the complexity of the characters and I thoroughly enjoyed a perfect pace the author set in telling the tale.

There are such wonderful twists and turns to this story, that I was in a constant state of anxiety!

The author masterfully controls my emotions which are running a gamut from sadness, frustration and elation.

I rarely leave my Regency world, but when I do, this is the book I leave it for!

I received Silent Sentry from the author to read and review. This book is an exciting story about a woman who is part of a team who has made an amazing discovery that will revolutionize the medical world, her family and a young widowed doctor with whom she becomes romantically involved. Gina Donnatelli is a member of an Italian family who take care of each other. Dr. Joe Scarfili Is from a similar family. At one time, Gina knew and had a big crush on Joe, though he married someone else, who was later murdered. Now, Dr. Scarfili wants to protect Gina, who is injured because of her break through discovery, though he worries because her altruistic nature is similar to the one that killed his wife. Still, these two manage to work with each other as the story evolves through many fascinating twists and turns. The author has clearly done her research for this book, as things seem to be right and fall into place quite well and naturally. My one problem with the book was that, despite the interesting story, there were a bunch of different characters making it a bit difficult to keep straight initially and the descriptions, though done well enough, seemed at time a bit overwhelming. Also, I had some difficulty getting into the book, but, by the end of the first few chapters, I was well into the story of these two characters and how their lives intertwined with each other, as well as with the mysteries involved and their respective pasts that impacted them today. I do think, however, the book could have been a bit shorter and still managed to pull off the still punch, and unlike some reviewers, I thought the detail put a small drag on my reading of the book. Still, this is a solid romantic suspense story that will appeal to readers who enjoy such. It is not a book that is easily put down once you get into it, as the story evolves. For me, it could have been a bit shorter, but, though it was not, I still enjoyed reading it.… (mehr)
