R. C Robertson-Glasgow

Great collection of classic cricket writing. Robertson-Glasgow is less well known than his close contemporary Neville Cardus, but his work repays examination. Included here are thoughts and musings on the game, a few pieces of whimsical fiction and portraits of the great and good of the cricket world. Much of the focus is on cricket before the Second World War, and 'Crusoe' offers much insight into the swing towards measured professionalism and away from the swashbuckling amateur. While there is some repetition in this collection, and the author's skills wane perceptibly as the decades wear on, this is a book that any fan of classic cricket writing should own.
