I received this as a Read and Review copy.

I hate to give bad reviews, but this is not a novel, it's a novella that takes 30 minutes to read.

Dean Winchester is stuck in a hotel for three days after a snowstorm cancels all flights out of Chicago. Sydney Walker is in the same boat, without a hotel. Lucky for her, and him, they run into each other in the hotel lobby and romance sparks. In no time there's sex and a relationship to look forward to.

There's a great plot in here, one that's been done before, but could easily be really good. Sydney doesn't know who or what she wants to be, which makes any relationship interesting, plus you add on top of that Dean's career as a famous hockey player. Unfortunately, there's no character development and I am lost as to how the relationship came to be. This was insta-love like I've never seen before. There were a lot of spelling and grammatical errors, but the worst was how quickly the viewpoints shifted. I had a hard time keeping track of which character's thoughts I was reading.

Unfortunately, I won't be sticking around for book two.

Hockey star Dean Winchester’s and artist Sydney Walker’s story continues in Vera Roberts’ fifth book of the Breakaway series, SCORING CHANCE. After their recent breakup, the two reconciled, both making mistakes while not seeing one another. Now a possible scandal once again threatens their relationship.

Both Dean and Sydney did some growing up in this story. They are both still young, Dean 22 and Sydney 24. They have a lot of responsibility for people their age. I appreciated when Vera Roberts had Sydney and Dean flashback to their childhood memories. It helps the reader understand the characters more.

I was sort of surprised how the story started out. By the end of the book, the action at the start of the story seemed brilliant.

Jameson and Sarah get married in Vegas toward the beginning of this story. Considering they are Dean’s and Sydney’s best friends respectively that makes for some interesting viewpoints throughout the novel.

Ian still rubs me wrong. I like that he looks out for Sydney, but I don’t trust him.

Rebecca is a piece of work. She adds controversy to the story and keeps it attention-grabbing.

I liked Quinn. He was a fascinating client. I could totally visualize Sydney’s mural.

I liked how the story was resolved. It had a wonderful ending. SCORING CHANCE is a great addition to the Breakaway series.

I voluntarily reviewed an advance reader copy of this book.

Let me start out by saying this is the first book that I have read by Vera Roberts. I didn’t realize that this is the fourth book in a continuing story about the same characters. It seems like most sports romances highlight different characters in each book in the series. That being said, I followed the story with no problems. I’m sure I would have felt more invested in the characters if I read the previous books. I am curious to go back and read the preceding books.

I like both Dean Winchester and Sydney Walker. Having an art background, I like that Sydney is an artist. I really liked Dean’s character. The couple faced a lot of issues in this story. They are constantly dealing with the paparazzi. Ian Ferguson made the story interesting. He is Sydney’s new art curator. He has taken an interest to more than her art. To make things more complicated his family owns the team Dean plays on, the Kings – yikes! There were some interesting situations and conflicts in the story. I felt that Dean was getting the blame for all the things that went wrong. I thought that Sydney and Ian were just as much, if not more, at fault. The plot was believable and interesting. I liked the ending and am interested in finding out what happens next.

I love this series. I can't wait for the next book. WHY oh WHY does it have to be published in 2014? That means I have 4 months to wait for this. :(
