This book attempts, in the words of the author, to be a 'Jewish biography' of Bob Dylan. Through biographical details, lyrics, and writings, Rogovoy argues that Dylan's preeminent influence has been his family's Jewish faith, and that this has shaped his career in key ways.
In some place the author's conclusions seem to stretch a little thin, and the book ought to have been edited more carefully for instances of repetition. This should not be considered a biography of Dylan, of which there are surely more conventional examples.… (mehr)
lots of good info, and especially good on the klezmer revival, but I don't think that Rogovoy knows/knew as much about Jewish culture or history when he wrote the book as would have been ideal. My favorite klezmer revival book so far, complete with an "essentials" list.
