I'm torn. Part of me thinks that Cheney was the man we needed for the time (post 9/11). And he makes some strong arguments in regards as to what was done. Part of me thinks that Cheney took advantage of a naïve young President, and imposed his own agenda on him. He does admit to not playing by the rules, going behind others backs to reach his goals. And he does try to shift responsibility for mistakes onto others (especially the State Dept).
I guess, in the final analysis, I would not want to work with Cheney. In school boy parlance, he's the kind of guy you would have met after school and punched in the nose. Or stuck his head in the toilet and flushed a few times.
But, Cheney being Cheney, that probably wouldn't have changed him at all.
As far as the author goes, he made a good effort. But he was outplayed at every turn by a crafty old fox.… (mehr)
