Discusses the achievements of the ancient Chinese in astronomy, medicine, science, and engineering, as well as such influential Chinese inventions as paper, printing, gun powder, and the compass.
first third is an interesting summary and several photos of state of German missile technology at the end of WW2. also US technology and development immediately after the war (I guess that many details and projects are omitted as current secrets). Descriptions are technical and chronological, with little interest in manufacturing and engineering costs, efficacy in operations, none in social and moral aspects. There is no index.
This is an interesting book, but probably not something I would keep in a K-2 classroom. The book explains the Chinsese contributions to astronomy, medicine, and physical and biological sciences, as well as technology, engineering and especially inventions. The book has larger font which makes it easier for kids to read, and it also has a few pictures throughout the book, however, the pictures are not very clear and they are only black and white. The book is organized well and has an index in the back that can be very helpful if the student is looking for a particular piece of information. I think that third, fourth and fifth graders would benefit from this book much more than Kindergartners through second graders. I rate this book a 3/5.… (mehr)
