This text is a rarity: a critical look at the supposed link between creativity and mental instability. The author addresses methodological issues with some prior correlations but then also gives a balanced view of some of the mechanisms which might be responsible for increased creative output by abnormal authors. He also discusses the important issue of how therapeutic or harmful creative expression might be for those who are troubled. The book is not jargon-laden and would be accessible to a general reader, but it is clearly written from a perspective closer to scholarly than to self-help. I found it an insightful read.… (mehr)
