I read this story when I student taught a lesson to my first grade class last Friday. The book was adorable and we created an entire lesson around it. I liked the book for three reasons. One of the reasons would definitely be its plot. The entire story is hilarious for young readers. Daddy’s snoring keeps the entire family up and causes the silliest things to happen to the mommy especially. I had students make their own predictions about what would happen next and they never could guess because they were so outrageous. The end of the story is also a great addition to the plot because it leaves the readers with the cliff hanger, “Daddy stated sleep talking….” The second reason I liked the book was for its illustrations. Just like the text, each picture was just as funny. My personal favorite was when mommy was forced to sleep in the hamster’s cage. The third reason I liked the book was for the many lessons that I thought could be taught around it. We focused on cause and effect and what event in the story causes all the other crazy things to happen. The students identified the cause and effects, and then created their own new ending to the story. Overall, the big idea of the story might be to help children if they have someone in their home that snores or even to help them if they snore.… (mehr)

This book is absolutely adorable in so many ways. For one, I know I can relate completely because my dad's snoring can be heard throughout my entire house! In this story, the poor mother is constantly trying to find a quiet place to sleep where she will not be bothered by the loud snores coming from her husband. The illustrations are very silly and I know children would love them and laugh because I even found myself smiling. It also constantly compares the snoring to something like a dinosaur or train, so as a teacher you can perhaps teach a lesson on figurative language to go along with this book. At the end of the story, the dad goes to the doctor for help to stop his snoring, and that night he didn't snore at all. However, he did start talking in his sleep! It was a cute and funny ending that I know students will love. There was no message in this story, just an entertaining book for younger students!… (mehr)

This is a funny book! While snoring isn't funny (as the author points out on the final information page), the illustrations of daddy's various types of snoring are chuckle worthy. It's how poor mom deals with the nightly snoring problem that will get the biggest giggles (and moments of "oh yeah" from harried partners of snorers). While it's highly improbable that mommy is going to try and sleep in the hamster's cage in real life, it's probably crossed the mind of mom's everywhere. When Mommy finally looks like a "zombie having a bad hair day," she takes Daddy to the doctor and finds a cure. (If only it were that simple and quick!) A fun read-aloud.… (mehr)
