This was an intriguing mystery. A pair of golfers is out on the green when they discover part of a dog skeleton with a pricey watch around its leg. But where did it come from and who would abandon a watch like that? Then creepy things start happening involving a mysterious stalker (in between lots of rounds of golf—I seriously brushed up on my terminology with this one!), the police aren’t providing a lot of assistance, and soon world-class golfer Samantha and her caddy and boyfriend Terry are in a world of trouble involving a drug ring… and several other key players have gotten themselves in even deeper than that.

Author Dave Saari creates an interesting and complex world and cast with lots going on, from small town cops, to a pharmacist with access to drugs looking to make an extra buck, to a young man without many opportunities caught up in between. I really liked Sam and Terry as characters. They work both as a couple solving crime, with an entirely different dynamic on the golf course, and there are some steamy scenes included as well. This novel has a bit of everything for the reader.

A few small flaws. There was a place or two where the mechanics of the mystery vs. plot holes left me with more questions than answers, and the time jumps slowed the pacing early in the novel and also revealed key information early on. However, these are negligible quibbles that didn’t take away from my overall enjoyment of the book. Dave Saari really knows his stuff when it comes to golf and this is definitely a book sports enthusiasts and mystery lovers alike will enjoy, full of lots of details and banter about the game and getting lost in play. An excellent feeling of suspense with believable villains—I was on the edge of my seat as we neared the end!
