“The Mistress Next Door” by Lesley Sanderson

A missing child, a secret past and a cheating husband…

This one didn’t wow me but kept my attention and overall was a good story with a decent plot twist.

What an intense read, I was captivated from the start. This book goes back and forth from what happened at the party back in 2005 when Ava and Lena were teenagers, to present-day at Ava’s leaving party, and Ava and Lena’s POV.
Ava is about to leave the country to live with her fiancé Ben, Ava and Lena have been inseparable since they were teens, and more so after events in 2005 when Lena saved Ava’s life, Lena wants to throw a leaving party that will be remembered, planning every last detail. But strange things happen during the party, black roses appearing, who is sending them? Everyone is under suspicion.
All of the time I was reading it I suspected one person, it had to be them surely, oh how wrong I was. It was full of twists and turns not just in the present but in the past too.

Louise is invited to her friend Amy’s cottage along with a few others who they were friends with at university for a birthday weekend. The cottage as it happens is in the same place as the university and it backs on to the woods where their friend Hannah was found dead fifteen years earlier.
The Saturday night of the weekend was planned by Amy to be a time to remember Hannah and maybe get closure. What happens is a little different from what she had planned when new evidence comes to light and Hannah was actually murdered. Who murdered her?
A game of truth and dare brings forward a lot of secrets and betrayals are revealed and it is not just about that fateful day but things more recent too. Will the friendships and relationships be able to survive this?
I really enjoyed reading this book, I felt that I got to know the characters well like they were my own friends as it was very detailed, the world building was so good I felt like I was in that cottage, sitting in the living room looking at Hannah’s photo.

I was not too shocked with whom the murderer was but it did not have me feeling flat as it was a really good book that kept me engaged from early on.

This is the second book I have read by Lesley Sanderson and I have enjoyed both, I will be looking out for more from her.

Tilly has gone missing. Harriet looks away for a brief second and she is gone. She is found a short time later and everyone thinks Harriet’s child just wandered off. But Harriet knows there is more. She keeps getting these strange notes threatening her with her past and her secrets.

Ok, before we get started there are just a few issues, and yes I did enjoy the book. But, I did not like the narrator’s voice for the child. Luckily the child did not speak very much. Then there is Oliver. I was not a big fan of this man on several levels. But, these are minor issues and they are MY issues. Just some thoughts that stuck with me throughout listening to this novel.

Harriet really tries to keep it together. I struggled right along with her. But she has some big secrets herself that she is not sharing. Then she discovers the receipt in Oliver’s jacket and her world starts to slowly disintegrate. Then it totally explodes and her past comes out.

I really enjoyed how this story unfolded. And I loved guessing about Harriet’s past. (And yes, I guessed most of it!). This is a pretty entertaining mystery with a big ole twist at the end!

Need a good novel with very good secrets…THIS IS IT! Grab your copy today.

I received this novel from the publisher for a honest review.
