Disappointing and boring. Very cold and clinical, and I felt there was a bait-and-switch ... for the first half it appeared to be a police procedural, essentially, done in an sort of proto-Law-and-Order style, but the second half was, without spoilers, about as gripping and as essential as delineating an argument over which toaster to purchase. The entire second half of the book, if condensed to two chapters, would have made a much more shocking and effective tale, but by drawing it out endlessly, to the point that it evoked Wile E. Coyote's feud with the Roadrunner, the author drained her plot of all momentum and effect.
