1. Summary - This book, other than the pictures, is about the background around the book "The Diary of Anne Frank", her family and where they come from, how their life was during their time in the concentration camps, how they all died besides Otto Frank (Anne's Father who she called Pim). It told of how he searched for his daughters, how he finally found out his daughters didn't make it, how he turned Anne's diary into a book after some self conflict with the idea, how he remarried and lived out the remainder of his years. It talked of how Otto turned the office building/secret annex into the Anne Frank House where people can visit today and view a museum.

2. Personal Reaction - I loved this book, although I have read "The Diary of Anne Frank" I didn't realize there were 3 different versions of it. I liked learning of the history and how the Diary came to be a book.

3. Extension Ideas -
1. I would use this as a pre read before diving into the book "The Diary of Anne Frank". I would use both to tie into a history lesson.
2. I would suggest this book to further vocabulary to advanced students who have an interest in history and have read similar books or want to read similar books soon.

Summary: this book is about the life of Anne Frank. Anne is a young Jewish girl living in Holland, during the second world war. Her story tells about this time in the Franks family life from the writing of Anne's diary. The Frank family went from being wealthy, to ending up hiding from the German Nazis, who were taking Jews and killing them in concentration camps. Anne and her family found a place to hide which they called the " hiding place." Anne used her diary to record everything that would happen to her family and friends during that time.
Personal reaction: I really like this book because it tells me close up what Anne and her family went through. What they and other Jews went through really is heart breaking and amazing at the same time. I would also add that this book brings out different levels of emotions.
Extension: I would use this book in the classroom, probably to students a little older. Using the book to look at the suffering of the Jewish people, as well as the Importance of recording Important life events, that can some day change history.

Author Kem Knapp Sawyer examines the worldwide problems of refugees. The author discusses the circumstances that encourage the flow of refugees, focusing on trouble spots such as Haiti, Bosnia, and the Middle East. Sawer also eplains how governments and international organizations, such as the United Nations and the Red Cross, are working to improve conditions and therefore, decrease the number of future refugees.
