Zeev Scheinwald was born Wolf (Zeev in Hebrew) Scheinwald in Sochaczew, Poland. In 1939, after Nazi Germany invaded in World War II, he was 18 years old when was rounded up with other Jews and deported to provide slave labor in camps such as Buchenwald, Auschwitz, and Mauthausen. His entire family was exterminated by the Nazis and their collaborators. Scheinwald arrived in Israel in 1946, enlisted in the military, and later worked in construction. Over time, he become a successful building contractor. He moved with his wife and children to the Ivory Coast in Africa, where he owned a major construction company. Later, the family lived in France and Venezuela, where Scheinwald led major construction projects. He and his wife Bruria assisted numerous philanthropic causes. His daughter Ella Scheinwald persuaded her father to write about his experiences and speak to her in taped interviews. In 2020, she translated and published his memoirs as Wolf: A Story of Hate.
