Katie Sciurba

Oye, Celia! is written by Katie Sciurba and illustrated by Edel Rodriguez. It is an ode to the Queen of Salsa, Celia Cruz. It is about a little girl who is on her way to a dance party. In her hands, she carries her favorite record. As the record plays, she dances away and shouts out what she hears when listening to Celia's music. The story blends Spanish and English into the writing. It will introduce students to many words they may have never heard of, such as; rumba or flamenco.

Of course I love this book - my first baby!

Edel Rodriguez did an incredible job on the illustrations. They bring life to the words in a manner that went beyond my dreams for the book. (Thanks, Edel.)
