I read this as part of my research into the "Featherston Incident". I wanted to make sure I understood the perspective of the Japanese prisoners who were held in New Zealand.

This book is really good. In part, it is a story of conversion to Christianity. I am not religious, but I appreciate the insight into how people can turn to religion in extreme situations.

The author is brutally honest about the emotions that assailed him during his capture and imprisonment. I also found his writings full of sharp insights that laid bare both Kiwi and Japanese cultural attitudes.

I very much appreciate this perspective.… (mehr)
