Closing the Gate is a book of catharsis. Author Deb Simpson lost her younger brother in 1997, when he killed himself in the wake of a mass suicide by members of Heaven's Gate, a cult group of which he was a member. Simpson tries to understand the reason why her brother might have taken that drastic step. In so doing, she exposes the loneliness that can engulf people in a supposedly advanced society in which even family members are adrift without any time for each other.

Highly recommended. Do read the book to understand why it is important for us to share our joys and sorrows with our loved ones. The photographs, the personal tone all add to make it a memorable book.
