Peter Smith has remained at the vanguard in the fight for the recognition and rights of adult learners throughout his impressive career. He designed and launched the Community College of Vermont (CCV) in 1970, a college designed around the specific needs of rural adults in the state. He later went mehr anzeigen on to serve in government as State Senator and then Lieutenant Governor in Vermont, and then on a national level as a US Congressman. As Assistant Director-General for Education at UNESCO, Smith took his expertise to a global level, supporting the effort to "globalize" open educational resources. In Idaho, far fewer students who graduate from high school apply for college than in other states. While there are likely regional explanations that explain some of this, there are likely many other reasons that are consistent with other regions of the country. From institutional attitude to early ideas that an advanced education is unobrtainable or undesirable, students in elementary school are often deciding that college won't be for them.
