* I got this book for review*

I also really loved this read. I felt like this book had a nice balance of the black panther myth but also was a story that could have happened to black panther in his younger years. I also liked this book was set in alabama and loved how that tied into all the stuff happening currently like black lives matter and other modern day elements. I also loved the trio of characters as the main focus. It was super quick read and just made me smile at the end. I def want to read more by this series in the future. It is a part of series, but you can read them out of order, i felt like this book did a good job of recapping the previous book!… (mehr)

Note: I received a prerelease review copy of this book from the publisher in exchange for an honest review.

The only saving grace was T'challa's friend group, providing advice, astonishment, and grounding for him. Character growth just isn't happening. The "bad guys" are all goofy, cartoony, or generic 80s clichés of villains. I don't recommend this book for anyone that likes Black Panther.

Hoodoo was a pretty fun read. I wish I was a little more pulled in by it - characters besides Hoodoo could have been filled out a lot more, and the setting could have been stronger to make this story even spookier and more memorable. The scenes with the Stranger and descriptions of his movements and image were awesome, and made up for places where the story was a bit thin. Good spooky stuff!
