Lexington Lexington Historical Society

This is a brief (68 pages) compendium of mostly official reports from officers on both sides at the Siege of Lexington, Missouri, in the early days of the Civil War. The secessionist Missouri State Guard besieged the Federal garrison at Lexington for several days and ultimately forced its surrender. The book was put together by the Lexington Historical Society in 1903 and is here reproduced digitally.

The book gives various people's accounts of the battle, some more interesting than others. At the end I had a pretty good idea of what went on but I definitely needed the help of the maps I found on Google. To get battlefield maps go to Images rather than Maps. For any battle you will usually find some more or less satisfactory maps.

This book is probably going to be of interest only to those deeply interested in the Civil War in Missouri or in the history of Lexington and northwest Missouri. Also to those interested in the small and forgotten battles of the Civil War.… (mehr)
