This started out in full color and I really wish it had stayed that way. But besides that two guys in the same school but different classes happen upon they flower faced destroyed that will remind readers of the demogorgon from Stranger Things. The story is too drawn out. It seems the same thing happens over and over again. It’s like they are trying to build up sexual tension underlaid on all the graphic death, and mysterious disappearances. I thought this book was fine, but will not be reading more of the series.

Akira is a very intelligent teen boy who despises school and only shows up to pass time. When he is approached by a very unusual man named Shirogane he is introduced to a shadow world that is beginning to invade our own. In order to defend his world against the kokuchi, shadow creatures, Akira must become a shin, a change that will alter his very existence.

I first picked this manga up at the bookstore due to the cover, which I found to be very attractive. When I discovered that in addition to the nice character artwork it was also a supernatural tale involving demons I was sold. Unfortunately it turned out to be a bit of a disappointment. The story takes huge leaps of logic. In particular I was puzzled about why Akira finally agreed to fight with Shirogane in their first battle against the shadow creatures. The secondary characters were kind of annoying with a bossy disciplinary member popping up in odd places to punish Akira for skipping school and his so-called buddy that Akira was actually more abusive than friendly to.

It is doubtful that with all the other manga series I'm presently pursuing that I'll continue on with this one.
