There is a mansion in wich a young gentleman Leonhard lives and one foggy evening he notices a strange phenomena and goes out to find a strange young woman that has fainted. He brings her back to the house.

When she wakes up she is disoriented and suffering from amnesia. Leonhard who is immedietale smitten with her takes her on a tour of the house to meet the other inhabitants,Dr Charles, the conjoined twins Iphigenia and Gerania,Giorgio the barber and his wife Antonina.

How are they all connected? When the 13th hour arrives it will all become clear.

First let me beging to say that Isis Sousa is a quite talented artist http://www.isissousadesigner.com/ but by her own admission in the afterword to the book she is not a writer and thats noticeable.

I cant help but think with the intriguing basis for a plot she has going if she had collaborated with a more skilled author things could have been different

As it is now you can hint at what could have been. That is not to say its awful.

The gothic atmosphere was really good. I just wish there had been more substance to the story and characters.

I cant really say much about the plot because there is not much of it and were I to mention more it would spoil the twist to the story. And what was Leonhards connection to the mansion?

This is one of the stories included in an upcoming anthology called "Stories from Duskland" set to be published in spring 2014.

Dark, unique, haunting, and beautiful. I enjoyed that it's different from other stories I've ever read. It sets on two planes of existence (realm of the living and the realm of the dead), and it has that enchanting dreamlike quality to it but in a gothic element.
Warning: there is one nude illustration towards the end of the book so it might not be suitable for minors.

I enjoyed this book a lot. I liked the characters and found the plot gripping and interesting - I never really knew what was coming next, though I guessed how it might end (not that that is a problem!)
The illustrations are beautiful - I haven't read an illustrated Kindle book before and it definitely added an extra dimension to the story.
I have to say that for me things weren't always described in quite enough detail for me to get a proper image in my mind of what was going on, and I occasionally got confused (only very briefly). I also felt like I wanted Elisa's past and the characters from her past to be brought to life a little more, so that I could get an experience of what her past was like and feel a bit more immersed in it.
Having said that, this was a very good read. I would definitely read more books by this author.

Elisa has just visited a beautiful and strange place called Duskland. She finds all its inhabitants interesting and falls in love with Leonhard after just a short time. She is pulled from Duskland to rejoin the living, but she is still not safe here. Her husband wants her dead and will do anything in his power to find her. With the help of new friends Elisa has the strength to fight back and in the end she must choose between living and the afterlife.

The book started off slow but once it picked up it was really enjoyable. Duskland was unique and had that eerie/dreamlike quality to it. I loved the Victorian Gothic vibe throughout the whole story. The illustrations are gorgeous. The author has a great imagination!… (mehr)
