I liked this book because it was a simple read and straight to the point. I liked how this version was different than the original "Little Red Hen." considering this one was about tacos. However, the overall message of the book was when someone does something nice for you, you should do something nice for them in return. The animals all should have helped the chicken clean the dishes up since they each ate tacos that the little red hen offered. I enjoyed the bright an colorful illustrations because they really caught my attention. Each picture has a brief written text that perfectly goes along with what is happening in the story. I liked how the characters names are the names of the animals because it makes it really easy to identify which character is talking. For example, the cat was named "Cat" and the fox was named "Fox." I really enjoy how the book has a fun activity at the end of the book that goes along with the story as a supplemental activity to enhance learning.… (mehr)

A fun read for a K-1 reader. Kenneth Spengler's twist on this classic story introduces us to a more assertive Little Red Hen and her friends, with some help from a surprising place. The text is almost all monosyllables (exceptions: "hungry", "tacos"), so it's good for someone who's learning to sound out words. The pictures, by Margaret Spengler, are wonderfully bright and dynamic in pastel chalk on sandpaper. Includes an activity to make collage animals from construction paper and the other regulars, but if you ask me, would have been better served by a how-to-make-your-own-tacos activity.… (mehr)
