A useful little book, it groups together selected excerpts from The Statistical account of Scotland to give an overview of what life was like for the bulk of the rural population in Scotland in the 1790s. It's very readable, and with its concentration on on the sociological aspects by the careful section of excerpts, much easier than the original to provide an idea of life at that time.
