People will have mixed feelings about this book. Yes, there is a boy who likes to play with dolls and slightly more feminine things. Did I get a transgender vibe? No. Not at all!

What I did appreciate about this book was the fact that there were characters of different color. I want more representation of different cultures in my storytimes. (Mostly because I do think we gravitate one way). And in the end, the characters discover something that unites them. We all can do that!

Nana loves her grandchild. She is one of those overly active grandmas that need to go to every show, every practice, etc. She sometimes gets way too involved, but when she gets hurt, only her grandchild will be able to help keep her home and healing. Honestly, I thought this book was boring. The illustrations are nice, but also a little boring. Someone will love it, just not me.

As a mom and her little boy go on a walk, he asks her about when he was a baby, and they talk about the ways she took care of him and the things he can do for himself now (the pictures often undercut the text in a humorous way: for example, the boy picks out his own clothes - and what an outfit!). Despite his growing independence, she reassures him, "I am your mom, and that will never change. Even when you're big, I'll be there."

If you're too creeped out or saddened by Love You Forever, read this instead!… (mehr)
