It’s been some time since I read a vampire story (perhaps not since Anne Rice’s first). I learned a little more vampire lore in this one such as the concept of the Keeper. I enjoyed how Larkin's attraction to Jesalyn gradually awakened him from a life that while complacent had to be a little boring after all those centuries and sympathized with Anna and Wyler whose duties as Keepers caused conflict that they were powerless to resolve. Though the story takes place in the present day, the bookshop setting and the writing gave it a quaint vintage feel.… (mehr)
