This little book at first glance seems to be a book for movie buffs. I am not a movie buff. I watch a few movies per year. This is a self-help book in a beautiful way. No, it's a self-help book in a fun way. It takes a totally different approach than most self-help books. It analyzes movies as a catharsis for where we are stuck in life. It even gives suggested movies depending on your stage of life, and what you are stuck on.

Step 1: Selecting the best movies for you life's change
Step 2: Preparing the best viewing conditions
Step 3: Relax and enjoy the drama
Step 4: After-viewing exercises to recreate your own feel-good ending

It even provides a framework for how a movie plot progresses.

There are 4 "Figures" in the book, which are interesting to study.

The biggest aw-shucks about this book is that was last published in 1998. But good movies are not confined to the last decade. After looking at this book, I went over to the audio-visual section of the library to check out a movie from 1939.

There were lots of things that I would have highlighted if I owned this book. Here are some.

"David Viscott states that, our feelings are our reaction to what we have perceived... Emotional pain has only a few causes: emotions stuck in the past are experienced as anger; anger held over time is felt as guilt; anger and guilt suppressed for an extended period turn into depression semicolon and emotions projected into the future become anxiety. The key to moving forward in any life change is to release the hurt stuck in the past and the fear and anger projected into the future. This letting go process moves us completely into the present moment, where we can take action with clarity." (Page 26-27)

"Theories about learning and creativity,... In our culture we tend to emphasize only two: the logical mathematical and linguistic, commonly measured by IQ test.... The other five intelligences are visual - spatial, musical, interpersonal (storytelling), kinesthetic (moving), and intrapsychic." (Page 27-28)

This book is a delightful, interesting, quick read.
