This book was the book that totally changed the way that I Backpack/Hike when it comes to eating. I plan on doing a Long Distance Hike in 2011. I've been planning this for 4 years already, starting as a beginner hiker. Through my research I realized that I needed to lighten my load food wise. Freeze-dried food is uber expensive! I found this book and can make cheaper, better tasting, and lighter food that will save me a fortune on food! This is a great resource. A great collection of recipes and a great concept for outdoor cooking. What's more most of the recipes are good enough for more regular use. I've been using this book as a guide to cooking for my own lunches for the last 4 or 5 months. Don't overlook it thinking it to specialized.
