This enjoyable fantasy is set apart from the common run of fantasy novels by a different setting and world-view. It is set in the Appalachian mountains, at a time when travel is by train or horse and buggy. Our hero, Grace McConnell, was married at 17, a widow at 27, and now it's 8 years later, and she's living outside Gatlinburg. Odd things and odd people live in the back country, and they are not only invading her dreams, but spooking her horses. There is magic in this world, best combatted by strong faith in the Good Book and sometimes a handy gun. Our heroine, with her Aunt Susanne, the Reverend Justin, and more folk they accumulate along the way, set out on a mission to find a kidnapped man who may be held by the crowned serpent and a person calling herself Starry Skye. I enjoyed the characters, the setting, and their adventures, and recommend them to you.… (mehr)
