Book source ~ ARC. My review is voluntary and honest.

Lieutenant Jo Riskin and Detective Lynae Parker are out enjoying some time with friends when they get a call from dispatch regarding a murder. Even though they are supposed to be off duty, the on duty team has been called out to another scene. Two murders in one night ends the few quiet weeks they’ve been enjoying, so Jo and Lynae head out to solve their crime. As they wade into the case the more they uncover the more confusing things get.

I don’t know why I have such a hard time writing a review about a book I enjoyed so much. This is book 3 and I think they are only getting better. Do I love the mystery? Hell yeah! Do I love the characters? Duh! What about the writing? There’s nothing better than opening a book to that first page and sinking in so far that the real world recedes. The world, the pacing, the plot, all blend so well with the characters and the dialogue to make perfect entertainment. Is murder entertainment? What does that say about me? Eh. Who cares? This is a wonderful read and if you like a good twisty mystery then do not pass this up. I mean it.

Lieutenant Jo Riskin is called in to investigate the death of a young girl found in a dumpster which reveals several suspects. While at the same time trying to find evidence in the murder of her husband.
An interesting read with some likable characters, enough that I look forward to reading the next in the series. Though I did find that the guilty party became obvious.

Book source ~ ARC. My review is voluntary and honest.

Lieutenant Jo Riskin of the Grand Rapids Police, Homicide Department has two murders, in a fairly close time span, that appear to be related. But the investigations are going nowhere. She, her partner Detective Lynae Parker, and her department are stumped. Oops. I said stumped. Considering the two victims are missing an extremity that is unfortunate wording. And also slightly funny. Come on, you know it is.

But wait! There’s more! Not only is Jo trying to find what could be a serial killer in her city, but the case against her husband’s killer suddenly goes sideways. Now she’s scrambling on two fronts. Thank goodness she’s pretty damn good at her job and she’s also got a top notch team.

It takes a special kind of talent for an author to run a primary murder (murders!-is this a serial killer?!) and keep us guessing, but it takes an extraordinary author to run two separate murder mysteries in tandem and not come out smelling like a big pile of crapola. I am happy to say that Ms. TenBrink smells like a field of flowers. Or maybe a midway filled with fair food. Or pies baking. Mmmmm…where was I? Oh yeah! Not only do we get the possible serial killer angle, but we get the continuation of Jo’s quest to bring her husband’s murderer to justice. See book 1 for how this particular part begins. Don’t worry though, this can be read as a standalone. However, I don’t know why you would want to skip book 1. It’s awesome!

I have nothing bad to say about this book. The plot, the pacing, the characters, the mystery, and the dialogue are all sublime. I hated leaving Jo and her crew in Grand Rapids when the last page was turned. Debbie S. TenBrink is most definitely one of my favorite authors. Period. The End.
