This is a seminal work for SysAdms. Some may look at the copyright and say the book is dated, and they're right when it comes to the chapter on UUCP, but everything in it is still fundamentally valid. It's easy to find what you need, the authors keep a balanced approach by noting pros and cons, and they included a plethora of practical examples. 15 pages on tar, 20+ pages on cpio, and almost 20 pages just on fsck. fsck (and mkfs) became far less mysterious after reading that section. The only logical (yet verbose) step after this book's explanations is to read the programmer's notes. OReilly fans will like it.… (mehr)
