The main message of this book is to show the power of sacrificial love and the types of examples fathers can set for their sons by their actions.
I enjoyed this book for many reasons. I loved the character of Papa. He is completely selfless and sacrifices everything for others. For example, though Papa's family is poor, he always gives away his pastries for free to those that are even less fortunate than he. This is a powerful witness. Though he had nothing, he still gave to others. This is an extremely impactful characteristic to possess.
I also enjoyed this book because of the strong community aspect. For example, the members of the community that Papa donates his pastries to all come back at the end of the book to repay him in anyway that they can. For example, one man is a carpenter who patches up their roof because Papa gave him pastries for free. I like that this shows that family can encompass a community. I love that all of the members of the community in this book are willing to sacrifice for the well-being of one another. It was a very touching community to read about.… (mehr)
