Alice Rains Trulock (–1991)

This book is an excellent biography of Joshua Chamberlain's contribution to the Civil War. It says little about his post-war experiences, but then, the subtitle is "Joshua Chamberlain and the American Civil War" so I would not expect it to deal much with his post war experiences. In the end I was saddened to see such valor and courage go to waste, as the nation basically turned its back on the issue of freedom and left the ex-slaves without defender or advocate, but that is the subject for another book.… (mehr)
