Melissa Tyrrell

This book was about a poor young boy that finds a genie's lamp. The Genie grants the young boy three wishes. One of his wishes results in him meeting a princess. However, when the Genie finds the boy has good fortune with the lamp, he demands the boy go to jail. By the end of the book, the boy and Princess live happily ever after.

I enjoyed this book. This book had all of the characteristics of modern fantasy. It displayed good vs. evil and in the end good prevailed. It was somewhat different the Disney version, but I think better. Throughout the book you look forward to what is going to happen to Aladdin. In addition, the book has foil on the pages to accent things such as the Genie's lamp and the Genie appearing.

For extension ideas for this book, in your classroom you could talk about good vs. evil, the magic that happens in the book. You may also want to talk about where the story takes place.… (mehr)
