Cooking for Mr. Right is a cute if somewhat (okay, okay, REALLY) predictable chick-lit romance. Kate is a typical, single woman who can't figure out what is wrong with her life until she is threatened with losing a man she doesn't really want, but doesn't want anyone else to have either. Joining ranks with her ex-boyfriend's psycho mother, Kate sets out to change anything and everything in her life to get "her" man back. Including, but not limited to, losing her job as sous-chef. As one would expect, enter new job, new ideas, and a new man whom she 'can't stand'.

Despite the tired plot, the book did have some cute twists and turns (such as the mystery man Sam's real house mates), some nice lessons to be learned (less can be more, fancy doesn't always mean better), and a few couples to be matched up and/or broken up. Though I didn't connect too well with the main character, Kate (which surprized me), I did think that the semi-main character Sam was well-developed and multi-layered.

It's not great literature, but I did enjoy reading it as the writing style is quite better than I expected. I will be looking for "Love and Meatballs" and any other books by Volland when I have some free time.… (mehr)
