I'm a mathematician and I'm somewhat torn on this book. About 1/4 of it is interesting to me and the other 3/4 were unbearably boring.

Detailed biography of a Georgian mathematician, from his early life in the coal mines of Tyneside, through building a career as a teacher and writer on mathematics, to his professorship at the Royal Military Academy, Woolwich. During which he studied the applied physics of gunpowder, ballistics, and the gravitational effects of the Scottish mountain Schiehallion.
A very detailed book. Perhaps more detail than most will need, but enjoyable. It's particularly interesting to have coverage of more of these emminent pre-Victorians, who are often overlooked.… (mehr)

A good book in order to measure the importance among different authors of Euclide's most important work. The style differs from traditional orthodoxy, but it can help to have a general background of how essential is, was, and will always be the legacy of greek geniuses.
