Rezensionen

Kathryn Watterson's Not by the Sword is more than an inspiring true story of how a Jewish family's love changed the life of a hardened and bitter Klansman. It is also a powerful reminder that love and forgiveness can truly conquer hate, and that there is good in everyone -- even a Klansman.

I can't believe more people haven't read this book; doesn't anyone care? I write to a few men in prison, and didn't think about women and I consider myself a femininst!
What happened? Somethings wrong with this picture. We should all be listening and start doing something about it. The concrete womb?!! it tweaked my soul!!

Should be taught in Middle School cirriculum.
Almost unbeliveable story of a former Klan leader and how a Cantor/Rabbi in Nebraska reaches out to him.
Waiting for the movie to come out.
Simply amazing!

Review
"A real contribution to understanding what happens to women incarcerated in our prisons today. . . Women in Prison is an excellent primer on the subject. The topics Watterson covers include the history of women's prisons; who is in prison, for what crimes; the prison industries that support the state and are fueled by prisoners' unpaid or miserably paid wages; the profit-making companies, organizations, and communities who benefit from the boom in prison construction and the ever-expanding correctional employment; the difficulties faced by incarcerated women and their children; the frightening world of women inside prison; the plight of those women as they leave prison with $25 in their pockets and no place to call home, no job and children to support; the inadequate medical and psychological services provided for women in prison; and prison friendships, families and sexualities." —Women's Review of Books… (mehr)
