Interesting first sentence to preface: 'My reader, in spite of a few queer-looking but easily explained terms, this is not a difficult subject'. Other interesting features, e.g. on front cover a sub-title in italics: 'a new book specially written for thus series'; a message on back of title page: 'For the Forces, Leave this book at a Post Office when you have read it, so that men and women in the Services may enjoy it too'. Adverts are interesting too: 'Smoke Greys cigarettes, just honest-to-goodness tobacco', 'Pears Jif shaving stick to soothe the savage beard' and on back cover 'Peek Frean's - Britain's crispiest biscuits, I am rather rare - only ask your share'… (mehr)
